On Creativity and Clarity
Each moment is an opportunity
--
There are moments when clarity strikes. Where everything that’s been on our mind coalesces into the “a-ha” moment. For many of us, myself included, these moments are rare.
But not super rare and that’s what makes these periods of clear thought valuable. It’s in these moments the potential to do our best living is born.
Seneca said, “Begin at once to live, and count each separate day as a separate life.” What about each moment? What if we looked at each minute as an opportunity to grow and develop?
“Begin at once to live, and count each separate day as a separate life.” — Seneca
Maybe starting fresh each moment of each day is unrealistic. But the mindset of improving our awareness of what we are spending our time on is the lesson.
The stoics, like Seneca, understood the true wealth in life was not material or currency. Wealth came from time. What you spend your time doing is where your true happiness comes from.
I’ve learned this over time, especially with creating art. For me, creating an illustration or simple pencil drawing is not only invigorating but fulfilling.
Exploring creativity is where the return on investment lies. It’s this time spent that adds value to each moment. I drew the botanical piece above in 2021 as a quick, simple line drawing. While this didn’t take hours to complete, it was an outlet for expressiveness.
Drawing a simple piece such as this (you can purchase a printable version in my shop here) lets the mind flow.
Embracing these little creative moments helps with our thought processes and helps us to live a new life each day. These creative minutes foster more moments of clarity.
As you build upon each moment, you have the opportunity to improve your decision-making. You are more thoughtful and more resilient. Imagine what your every day can be.
Once you mix your creativity and clarity you are in a position to lead. Whether in your personal or professional life, your leadership abilities are based on your ability to think clearly, thoughtfully, and with intention.
Live each day.
