Just Let It Go

Are you learning from or living in the past?

Separating ourselves from the past is great advice. Difficult in practice.

The concept of “letting go” sounds easy. All one has to do is simply stop thinking about the past. Those choices you now realize weren’t the best. The things you said you wish you didn’t.

The people you gave time to because you thought you needed their validation.

But here’s the rub, our minds don’t easily let go. This is by design. How else do we learn? How else do we come to understand others and more importantly ourselves?

When you think of past experiences and choices, you’re retrieving those lessons. When you keep living in the past, then you have a problem.

The next time you think you need to “let go” of the past, ask yourself are you letting go? Or are you trying to teach yourself something? If there’s a lesson to be learned, great.

If you’re going to dwell on what happened and continuously relive the experience, that is when you have to “let go.”
