Leaders need to embrace critical feedback.

Why it matters: if you as the leader embrace feedback from your followers, you learn, grow, and become more effective.

Deep Dive: Old school leadership taught us that leader is never wrong and you don’t critique the leader.

Throughout history, we’ve seen numerous emperors and monarchs be untouchable.

And millions suffered.

A perfect example is the Roman emperor Nero. A man whose regard for his fellow Romans was….lacking, to say the least. But you did not question him.

Successful leaders are open to criticism, possess self-awareness, and understand they are human, fallible, and prone to make mistakes.

Successful leaders understand the value of getting feedback from those they lead.

Contrast the kings and emperors who surrounded themselves with sycophants versus leaders like Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln built his cabinet with his political rivals who came to revere him.

To build yourself into a successful leader, you must be open to accepting critical feedback from your subordinates. Don’t be afraid to ask how you can do better.
